Moving through daily life should be an epiphany of pleasure and ease. Often, though, these feelings evade us because our bodies suffer from unnecessary tension, stress and lack of support. We might have an inkling of how to regain natural poise, but somehow the usual exercise approaches often don’t seem to help.
My work is informed and enriched by many mind-body approaches to learning how your body works. I choose to call myself Movement Muse – a term that better defines the breadth and scope of my practice.A movement muse can assist you in redirecting away from distress and towards regaining natural balance and freedom of movement.
When it comes to relearning how to move well or improving posture or any skill, we need a muse to help us uncover natural ability and freedom to move. A muse welcomes you back into the world of movement ease, reawakening your sensory imagination and restoring harmony.A movement muse can be many things – teacher, coach, advocate, field guide — even a wizard — someone who helps you find uncover your own natural embodiment and capabilities.
My work as a muse comes from many rich traditions – years of training in dance, body-mind disciplines, consciousness studies, human movement science, and rehabilitation medicine. For four decades I have drawn from these many forms of movement education and expression as catalysts for artistic growth, teaching, and health and wellness. I am devoted to a synthesis of the art and science of movement. This synthesis includes elements of dance, movement science, and Somatics. Somatics is an umbrella term for the many body-mind disciplines that engage active sensory awareness and constructive thinking. As well, I spent 22 years in the field of rehabilitation medicine (physical therapy). At their foundation is the empowering process of learning how to support your body and mind in balance.
The two main disciplines that have influenced my way of working over these three decades have been Ideokinesis (www.ideokinesis.com) and the Alexander Technique (www.amsatonline.org and www.ati-net.com). These techniques offer proactive approaches to embodied learning – knowledge that is practical and that you can use on a daily basis. While Ideokinesis draws on visual imagery, the Alexander Technique relies on kinesthesia, the sensations that arise from movement. Ideokinesis helps you envision a movement goal, while the Alexander Technique guides you in realizing the goal as effortlessly as possible.
The two approaches together form a compelling way of learning about your body and its potential to move well and easily. They bring mindfulness into everyday activity, making your life easier without having to learn or practice any other exercises. It is your body’s guidance on the go. You learn to link body and mind in gaining support, balance, freedom and ease.

The Alexander Technique also lends itself to group learning and lowers the cost of individual instruction.I welcome teaching small focus groups (musicians and dancers, for example), larger master classes for societies and individuals, or coaching movement teachers in how to enrich their personal use and teaching approach.
Finally, I tailor workshops or class series to suit your particular interests and learning needs.
